Strelitzia
The Strelitzia plant also known as the “Bird of Paradise Plant” is a dramatic and large ornamental plant which truly brings a touch of the tropics to your space. An exotic showstopper with huge paddle shaped leaves supported by thick long and sturdy stalks.
If cared for properly this plant will reward you with flambuyoant blue, orange and red flowers during the winter and spring months.

Native to South Africa.
Size:
Reaches up to 60 inches (160cm) in height within 4 to 6 years.
Flowering:
Strelitzia produce orange, red, blue flowers during winter and spring months in the UK. These stand tall above the foliage and each flower lasts around one month.
Lifespan
With the right care this plant can live up to 50 years.
Toxicity
This plant is mildy poisonous to humans and pets if ingested.
Care Guide:
Light: Stelitzia prefer bright yet indirect light. It can also handle direct sunlight for 6 hours a day if placed in a very bright room or conservatory.
They will also thrive under artificial and grow lights (if they are placed minimum 60 inches above it.)
Water: Strelitzias love water. Give the plant a good drink when the first two inches of soil are dry. Be sure to keep the plant in a well draining pot as it can be susceptible to root rot.
As a rule of thumb water 60ml per 10cm of pot for this plant.
This plant will handle British unfiltered tap water.
Humidity: This plant does best in high humidity 60% - 70% RH is ideal. Regular misting in dryer locations really benefits the plant.
Temperature: This plant prefers moderate heat. 18c - 30c is ideal. Do not place the plant in near open windows in the Winter or autumn.
