Monstera Deliciosa

The Monstera Deliciosa is a huge floor plant with one of the most recognizable leaves in the design world. Its “Swiss cheese” nickname comes from the iconic splits and holes in its leaves.

Monsteras have a longstanding history in art and interior design. You can commonly find pictures of the monstera leaf printed on pillows, framed on walls and even hanging solo in a glass vase.

Country of Origin:

  • Native to Mexico but found throughout the Rainforests as south as Panama.

Size:

  • Reaches up to 96 inches (240cm) in height and width in 5 - 10 years.

Flowering:

  • White and Green Spathes which conceal white to cream flowers very similar to that of the peace lily. Many growers prefer to trim off the flowers of this plant as flowering diverts the plants energy from it’s desirable foliage.

Lifespan

  • With the right care this plant can live between 30 - 40 years.

Toxicity

  • This plant is poisonous to humans and pets if ingested.

Care Guide:

  • Light: Monsteras do well in bright but indirect light - think filtered sunlight from a East or North facing window. Direct sunlight will scorch the leaves and turn them yellow.

They will also thrive under artificial and grow lights (if they are placed minimum 60 inches above it.)

  • Water: Wait until the first 2 to 3 inches of soil are dry before you water your Monstera

As a rule of thumb water 50ml per 10cm of pot for this plant.

This plant will handle British unfiltered tap water.

  • Humidity: This plant does best in moderate to high humidity 50% - 70% RH is ideal. Regular misting in dryer locations really benefits the plant.

  • Temperature: This plant prefers moderate heat. 18c - 25c is ideal. Do not place the plant in near open windows in the Winter or autumn.
