Kentia Palm
The kentia palm is a low maintenance plant that thrives in various conditions, but a bit of extra care will ensure it remains looking good and healthy. Kentia Palms (Howea forsteriana) are tall, elegant palms with arching fronds on long stems that will happily grow as a houseplant or outdoors in the right spot.
Kentia Palm trees are one of the best plants for beginner gardeners as they survive on neglect and are very low maintenance.
Country of Origin:
Native to Lord Howe island off the coast of Australia. but found throughout the Rainforst of South East Asia.
Size:
Reaches up to 120 inches (300cm) in height and width in 2 - 3 years.
Flowering:
The Kentia Palm produces small, inconspicuous white to cream flowers arranged in clusters along stalks that emerge from the base of the fronds.
Lifespan
With the right care this plant can live between 10 - 50 years.
Toxicity
This plant is not poisonous to humans and pets.
Care Guide:
Light: Kentia palms work well in bright but indirect light. about 3 to 5 foot from a south facing window is great. Kentia palms are also known to thrive well in low light conditions making them a great addition to many parts of the house.
Water: Water the plant only when the top two inches are dry. Generally once every 7 to 10 days in the spring and summer and every 2 to 3 weeks in the autumn and winter.
As a rule of thumb water 50ml per 10cm of pot for this plant.
This plant will handle British unfiltered tap water.
Humidity: This plant does best in moderate humidity 40% - 60% RH is ideal.
Temperature: This plant prefers moderate heat. 18c - 24c is ideal. Do not place the plant in near open windows in the Winter or autumn.
