Bamboo

 

Lucky bamboo is an easy plant to care for which makes it great for offices and homes alike. It’s happy growing in soil or water but has the longest life when grown in soil.

t is said to represent good luck and happiness, making it an ideal and popular gift in business and personal matters. Another factor that makes lucky bamboo so popular is its ability to be trained into shapes like a swirl, heart, braid and other designs.

Country of Origin:

  • Native to China but found throuhgout South East Asia.

Size:

  • Reaches up to 200 inches (15 foot!) in height in 7 - 10 years.

Flowering:

  • White flowers but they do not flower easily in containers - they flower every 3 to 30 years in the wild.

Lifespan

  • With the right care this plant can live between 7 - 15 years.

Toxicity

  • This plant is not poisonous to humans and pets.

Care Guide:

  • Light: Bamboo does well in Bright but indirect light - think filtered sunlight from a East or West facing window. They will tolerate less light than more of it and be careful not to place it in direct sunlight which will scorch it’s leaves.

    They will also thrive under artificial and grow lights (if they are placed minimum 42 inches above it.)

  • Water: These plants can be grown in water (change the water weekly.) Once planted into soil the soil should be kept damp, not over moist at all times. The plant will not tolerate completely dry soil.

    As a rule of thumb water 30ml per 10cm of pot for this plant.

    This plant will handle British unfiltered tap water.

  • Humidity: This plant does best in moderate to high humidity 40% - 70% RH is ideal.

  • Temperature: This plant prefers moderate heat should be kept warm at all costs. Do not place it outside during the Autunm, Winter or Spring. 18 - 35c is the opitmum temperature for Bamboo.
